Hyperhidrosis (Excessive sweating)

Sweating plays an important role in controlling your body temperature but sometimes this mechanism goes wrong, leading to excessive sweating – a condition called Hyperhidrosis. If you’re currently suffering from Hyperhidrosis, we understand that it can make life difficult, affecting your normal activities and self-confidence. Treatment is available.

Control Hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating) with wrinkle relaxing injections

As someone who has Hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating), you may be exploring different treatment options. One of the most effective approaches, especially to control underarm sweating, uses so-called wrinkle reducing products containing Botulinum Toxin.

This treatment works by injecting small quantities of Botulinum Toxin into the sweat glands in the underarm area. This has the effect of temporarily hitting pause on the nerves that have been injected, freezing them for between three to six months.

Many people find that this brings their excessive sweating under control, providing relief from the challenges of living with Hyperhidrosis.

If Hyperhidrosis affects the sweat glands in your scalp, hands or feet, let us know as we have had some excellent results with other patients and may be able to help.

This is also an excellent treatment for men and women who enjoy tough contact sports such as rugby.

Treatment time: 30 minutes

Recovery time: Immediate

Results duration: 6 months

Treatment price: From £500 (under arms, both sides)

                                     From £399 (other areas)

Hyperhidrosis treatment FAQs

How long does a treatment for Hyperhidrosis take using wrinkle relaxing injections?

The wrinkle relaxing injections we use for Hyperhidrosis take just 10 to 15 minutes to administer.

Will the treatment hurt?

The needles we use to administer the Botulinum Toxin product are incredibly fine and deliver a small amount of the product. Most people compare the sensation to a mild insect bite. Areas such as the underarms, scalp and soles of the feet are quite delicate so we may apply a topical anaesthetic to your skin approximately half an hour before your treatment to numb the sensation.

Is one treatment enough to show results?

Yes. You should experience a significant improvement to your excessive sweating after one treatment.

How quickly should I experience an improvement?

It can take seven to 10 days to experience the results of the treatment.

Is Hyperhidrosis treatment using Botulinum Toxin safe?

Wrinkle relaxing injections are backed by years of proven use and clinical studies, and are discussed as an effective treatment option for excessive sweating by organisations such as Hyperhidrosis UK.

However, it is important to be aware of the potential side effects (see below), which we will discuss in detail with you during your initial consultation.

We only ever deliver injections from a single-use vial using single-use needles to ensure that you receive treatment with a product that is fresh, undiluted and free from risk of contamination.

What are the potential side effects of wrinkle relaxing injections for Hyperhidrosis?

Most commonly, people experience a small amount of temporary bleeding, mild swelling or bruising at the injection site. This usually subsides quickly. You may also experience a mild headache after your treatment.

Flu-like symptoms, nausea and blurred vision are less common but have been recorded worldwide.

In more serious and rare cases, wrinkle relaxing injections can cause breathing difficulties, muscle weakness, slurred speech and trouble swallowing. None of these symptoms have been experienced at Medikaur Skin & Aesthetics to date but if you notice any signs of muscle weakness or difficulty breathing, you should seek medical advice immediately.

Is there anything I should do/not do after a treatment for Hyperhidrosis?

When you come in to Medikaur Skin & Aesthetics for Hyperhidrosis treatment, we will give you detailed aftercare instructions. It’s important that you follow our recommendations to enjoy the best outcome.

We may recommend that you:

·         Shave the underarm area 24-48 hours prior to treatment

·         Avoid rubbing or massaging the treated area for several hours

·         Avoid vigorous exercise

Can anyone administer wrinkle relaxing injections for excessive sweating?

Products containing Botulinum Toxin are Prescription-Only Medicine (POM) that should only ever be administered by a qualified medical professional such as a doctor, surgeon, independent nurse prescriber or dentist. An aesthetician can administer the injections, but only if the treatment is approved by someone suitably qualified.

For the treatment of Hyperhidrosis, it’s essential that the practitioner understands the anatomy at and surrounding the treatment area.

Here at Medikaur Skin & Aesthetics, Hyperhidrosis treatment is performed by Jane Paterson, who is a popular and immensely experienced advanced aesthetic nurse practitioner, or Dr Gurpreet Gill.
