From social media to the importance of looking good in your job and social life - there have never been more reasons for men to care about their appearance.

So perhaps it is no surprise that more and more men are switching onto the benefits of cosmetic procedures.

Over in the United States, The American Society of Plastic Surgeons has tracked a 20 per cent in men undergoing procedures since 2010. This growing movement has become affectionately known as ‘Brotox’ - in this blog, we get to the bottom of the trend:

Giving men a 'competitive edge'

The growing male acceptance of grooming and cosmetic procedures - such as botox or dermal fillers - isn't necessarily a question of becoming more vain. The advantages of looking at your very best for men in the over 30 age group are there for all to see. There is a theory known as ‘The halo effect’ which found that people who are perceived as taking better care of their appearance are more likely to be handed coveted job positions and even be paid more, especially in client-facing positions. Then there is the social media phenomenon which has swept the world - imagery plays such an important part in our social media output, that men quite simply want to look good in their photos!

The best techniques

If you are a man who has considered 'Brotox', there may never have been a better time to book yourself in for a treatment. Modern procedures which are laser or needle-based are now minimally invasive, meaning that they can take less time, and leave fewer traces than more drastic forms of surgery. Take a treatment such as dermal fillers, for instance - this simple injection-based technique gets to work restoring facial balance and visibly reverse the signs of ageing. Using dermal fillers can help to create subtle but effective cheek, jaw and/or chin definition with no surgery or downtime.

Optimum results, minimum time

Some skin treatments for men come under the category of 'lunch break procedures', such is their speed and convenience. Procedures like dermal fillers can now be performed in as little as ten minutes, meaning that men do not have to sacrifice large chunks of their time for an initial or follow up appointment.

But perhaps the best news for men is that today's cosmetic procedures are able to produce a more natural look, which is a far cry from the 'frozen' appearance sometimes associated with the treatments of yesteryear.
